PE
PE, at Wallands, is a weekly highlight and we collectively encourage all children to become ‘Fit for Life! A variety of skills and sports are taught across the school. We use https://thepehub.co.uk, a published scheme which promotes progression and development in sport and fitness from Reception to Year 6.
Each week, all children have the recommended 2 hours of physical education. This is achieved through a combination of dance, gym, fitness, The Daily Mile and outdoor sports. Children in year 4 have swimming lessons. These are delivered by trained swimming instructors at our local leisure centre. All children understand the need for water safety.
With extensive grounds, we are able to offer a variety of opportunities for all children. We have a trim trail, a hard-court area and a large field with 2 football pitches and running tracks. Teachers are enthusiastic and become part of the lesson to inspire the children and to demonstrate that learning together helps us to achieve. Lessons are accessible and adapted for all.
All children are encouraged to be the best they can be. Within each lesson, the children are praised for their sporting achievements measured against our school values. The values are also recognised in our extra-curricular clubs of which there are many.
As part of our PE commitment, all children take part in the Daily Mile. This is run, jogged or walked around a course, on the school playing field. The allows the children to enjoy the opportunity to improve their general fitness and set themselves personal challenges as well as spending time with their peers and teachers before classroom learning resumes.
We provide regular opportunities for all children to take part in inter-school and intra-school competitions at different levels and have retained our recognised Silver Active Schools Games Mark again this year.
