SEND
The school has a special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCO), Julie Mortimer, whose role it is to oversee the special educational needs (SEN) provision throughout the school.
These needs include language and learning difficulties, sensory impairment, physical, behavioural and emotional difficulties.
Within each class, work is differentiated to suit the needs of the children. During children’s Reception year observations are made and recorded linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage goals; this enables us to assess the child’s ability and tailor the relevant learning experiences for each child. In all classes, ongoing observations and assessments enable teachers to identify children’s individual needs and put in place strategies to address them.
The graduated approach of the Code of Practice for the identification and assessment of special educational needs operates within the school. The progress of the identified children is directed and measured with the help of an Individual Education Plan (IEP) and/or the school Provision Map. Parents are involved and actively encouraged to participate in the development and review of their child's plans.
If you feel your child has Special Educational Needs, please let us know as soon as possible. We are an inclusive school and as such we welcome the admission of all children.
If you would like to contact Julie Mortimer, please call 01273 472776 option 4 or email via jmortimer@wallands.org
