Wallands Community Primary and Nursery School

Art

Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. A high-quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

Purpose of Study National Curriculum for Art 2014

Our aims for our Art Curriculum at Wallands are:

  • to develop practical art skills in drawing, painting, printing, 3d, collage and textiles;
  • to develop children's ability to use art specific vocabulary to describe and analyse their own art and that of other artists;
  • to know some great works of art, architecture and design and the story behind them.
